Isolfin, more than 50 years of thermal-acoustic and fire barrier insulation

Isolfin specialises in the thermal-acoustic and fire barrier insulation sector. Set up in 1961 by Sergio Galli, a skilled and farsighted entrepreneur, the company became a reliable and secure point of reference for major groups operating in the petrochemical, energy and shipbuilding sectors. A reputation that is still lasting after more than 50 years.

Over the years Isolfin broadened its fields of action and became a leader in abatement and removal of materials containing asbestos and in the erection of metal industrial scaffoldings as well as sandblasting, painting & fireproofing activities.

Today, for the management and execution of works, the Company can count on more than 350 highly qualified employees who, in line with company philosophy, consider safety in the workplace and quality an integral part of the operational process.

50 years of history

Isolfin’s first activities were closely linked to industrial development in sixties Italy: the company did the thermal insulation at the new Anic petrochemical plant in Ravenna (subsequently Enichem, then Eni). This undertaking was further extended to the Pcbi premises (Phillips Carbon Black Italiana) where carbon black is produced. In 1966 the company was awarded the maintenance contract for the Enel power station in Porto Corsini.

The range of action had already widened to include other production sites in the Emilia-Romagna region: in 1962 the company was assigned maintenance works in sugar refineries from Forlimpopoli to San Giovanni in Persiceto.

Activities in the shipbuilding sector and expansion

In 1965 another step forward: into the shipbuilding sector at the Breda shipyard in Porto Marghera where they build merchant ships, gas carriers and military vessels. The quality of the work carried out led to a new contract in the petrochemical plant at the Montedison premises in the same Veneto town (1967-1968).

From 1970 to 1980 there were works on new plant, in connection with contracts from important national and foreign engineering companies: Snamprogetti, Tecnimont, Foster Wheeler (plant for butadiene - styrene - carboxyl latex - ammonia lines in the Ravenna petrochemical plant. Pentadiene cycle - extension of cracking plant at the petrochemical works in Porto Marghera).

The eighties was a period of further consolidation with the creation of the following works:

  • new Carpol Carpefin plant for Eni at Carpinello (FC), for the production of synthetic fibres;
  • insulation on board new corvettes for the Thai and Iraqi navies built at the Breda yard in Porto Marghera;
  • insulation on all the external stretches of the Romagna waterworks, commissioned by the Ravenna company CMC.

Between 1980 and 2015 Isolfin collaborated with Rosetti Marino SpA on numerous rigs such as:

  • Rospo Mare (in collaboration with Bouygues Offshore)
  • Kashagan
  • Halfdan
  • Annamaria Sabratha
  • Jasmine
  • Clipper
  • Marlin

The "queens of the sea"

1989 saw a new direction in the shipbuilding sector: Isolfin took part in the construction of cruise ships for Fincantieri SpA.
The Ravenna company worked on a great many cruise ships: from the Costa Classica to the Costa Romantica; from the Disney Magic to the Disney World, for Disney Cruise Line.

Without forgetting, from 1999 to 2005, the fleet of cruise ships for Holland America Line HAL:

  • Veendam
  • Westerdam
  • Oesterdam
  • Zuiderdam
  • Noordam
  • Amsterdam
  • Rotterdam

as well as Cunard and P&O. Work proceeded with insulation aboard cruise ships Costa Favolosa, Deliziosa and Fascinosa (2006-2011).

In 2008 Isolfin was awarded further insulation contracts at the Fincantieri premises in Ancona for the cruise ships of the Compagnie du Ponant and Silversea.

New sectors: asbestos abatement, scaffolding, sandblasting, painting & fireproofing

Following Law No. 277 of 1991, which set regulations with regard to activities in the presence of asbestos, Isolfin started to work in the new sector of abatement in the industrial, civil and shipbuilding sectors.

Works in this field proceeded in parallel with other important contracts. From 1995 to 1998, creation of insulation for ammonia tanks at the Enichem premises in Porto Marghera; from 1997 to 1998 works on the new plant at Alusuisse gruppo Lonza (subsequently Polynt) in Ravenna.
In 2000 Isolfin was granted ISO 9001:2000 certification. One year later it extended its activities in the metal scaffolding sector. It also won maintenance contracts for insulation and scaffolding at the Enel power stations in Marghera, Fusina and Porto Tolle (RO) and in Porto Corsini (RA). In 2010 it was awarded the maintenance contract for insulation and scaffolding at the Eni refinery in Venice.

The relationship of trust with customers has continued over the years. Isolfin has maintained its relationship with Eni at the petrochemical plant in Marghera and Ravenna, and at the refineries in Venice and Leghorn. With Enel at the power stations in Porto Tolle, Fusina, Marghera and Porto Corsini; and with Fincantieri in Marghera and Venice, not to mention ongoing activities at various plant in Ravenna.

In 2013 Isolfin decided to broaden once again the services to provide and acquires the majority share of Saida SpA, a company with over a decade of experience in the industrial, naval and offshore sectors specializing in anti-corrosive treatments, sandblasting, painting and fireproofing. For a couple of years Saida was part of Isolfin Group of Companies, maintaining full legal and operating continuity until completing the definitive incorporation on the 1st of September 2015.

Saida Spa was founded more than 30 years ago, thanks to the entrepreneurial idea of some sector professionals. Such company has consolidated its presence within the national territory, extending the range of processes performed and steadily increasing its credibility with clients, both in Italy and abroad.

In 2013, becoming part of the Isolfin industrial group, allowed itself to ensure integrated management of all activities performed within the group and making the most of the resulting synergies. In September 2015, following the definitive incorporation of Saida, Isolfin is now able to extend its own activities even more and execute works on projects that are carried out all over the world.
